Tree-REX

A fun craft idea for those who want a quirky personal touch to their festive decorating

I have noticed a distinct lack of dinosaur ornaments and decided to remedy the situation.

Initially, I was going to do glitter dinos but then the idea of dealing with glitter fall out really didn’t appeal to me. Instead, I added shine through glittery pom-poms, shiny bells & metallic spray.

Love how they turned out and you can use them for present toppers too!

Of course, dinosaurs are awesome and really can be used to decorate all year round.

MATERIALS

  • Plastic dinosaur toys

  • Pompoms

  • Fine ribbon

  • Bells

  • Jewel stickers

  • Glue gun & glue sticks

  • Metal eye hooks

  • White matt spray paint – optional

  • Metallic spray paint

  • Drop sheet/newspaper for spray

  • Spray mask

METHOD

Attach eye hooks to hanging points on the plastic toy

Plastic dinos with metal eye hooks attached

Spray with light coat of white spray paint & allow to dry

(This is optional I prefer this as I find it gives you an even coat as a base for any colours you spray on plastic)

Dinos with white base coat of white spray paint

Spray 2 to 3 coats of metallic paint allowing to dry between coats.

I leave my items to dry over-night to ensure they dry completely before handling.

Feed thin ribbon through the eye loop, attach bells & tie.

Using glue gun attach pompoms and jewels where desired. Get your decorating on!
